The person who makes it the furthest, or even all the way through, will be pronounced the winner. So, what do they win? Usually just bragging rights to the race. And the following week after everyone has performed the necessary repairs on their vehicles, they will all race again to try to beat the prior week's victor.
There are a few professional mud racing organizations that track wins and losses and so on, but most of the runs are held in someone's back yard where there is ample room and plenty of mud. Some people choose to create their own tracks by basically hosing down an area that is already sandy or just dirt or sometimes they will even use a backhoe or tractor to carve out an area then wet it down to create the mud.
Everything from custom built cars and trucks, ATVs and motorcycles run through these mud holes. Many times there will be various classes based on engine size, suspension and body style. Other times it will be all in one category and everyone races against each other. Still other times there is no actual competition. It is a group of people getting together for a day in the sun.
This type of entertainment can become very expensive for the drivers and builders. The suspension parts are usually what ends up getting broken and they are not inexpensive to fix. Because of this sometimes drivers will stop before they actually would have been forced to because they want to avoid the expensive repairs. Others will push their vehicle until it cannot go any more quite literally, causing extensive damage that will require many weeks to repair.

Mudding 4x4 Is A Growing Sport

Mud boggin, mud bogging or mudding. Whichever you call it, it's taking off big. All you need are truck lovers and plenty of mud to drive them in. The two combined have produced a new sport that's growing in popularity.

Anyone who grew up in a rural area has probably had first-hand experience of going through mud in a pick-up for something to do. In the same way little kids love making mud pies, when we get bigger, we still are fascinated by playing in mud. Of course you also need to make sure that you can get the mud out of the truck as easily as you got it into the truck. One suggestion is to replace the trucks seat with a hard plastic bench style seat. You might also want to accommodate easier clean up by drilling some water drain holes in the floor board as well as the bed. These changes will allow you to easily spray the inside of the truck out with a high power hose when the day is done.

Safety is of course important. Please remember that you will be driving a very powerful vehicle at a very high rate of speed though a boggy, slick, and wet mass. You need to make sure that you have adequate restraints in place such as five point harnesses just in case things get a little out of control.

You may want to install a winch on the front or back of your truck for the purpose of getting you out of the inevitable hole you will find yourself stuck waist deep in the middle of eventually. The use of an electric winch allows you to get yourself out of a jam without the need of an expensive tow truck call.
